Clearly Milton never went to La Costa Brava

I almost don't want to tell you about this coastal paradise for fear that it might lose it's magic.  But my desire to share beauty overcomes any delusional suspicion I have that my blog will inspire hordes of well-meaning tourists to overcrowd and ruin Calella de Palafrugell.  That is to say: I trust you.  And I trust that you are countable on one hand.

Calella de Palafrugell is a brilliant town tucked away on Spain's Costa Brava, about 2 hours NE from Barcelona.  It's brilliant in the literal, physical sense of the word--sun seems to glimmer off every wall and wave crest.  And it's brilliant in the British sense of friggin' awesome.  I want to hug the person responsible for putting a quaint town next to such a soul-soothingly-gorgeous beach.  See for yourself:

Life in Calella is heavenly--or at least for a lazy vacationer who loves the beach. I spent the weekend staying at a lovely bed and breakfast owned by a Scottish couple, where I was treated like a queen (and literally slept in a tower).  Almost all of my favorite things were at my fingertips: ocean, fish for eating and seeing, sun, good company, and tasty wine.  During the day I snorkeled, lazed, ate fresh seafood, and drank cava, the Spanish equivalent of champagne.  At night I ate more seafood, drank more cava, and chilled with some wonderful Canadian girls.

I'll admit not a lot of cultural learning was going on except for listening to endearing Scottish and Canadian accents, but it was a great way to say goodbye to summer and take advantage of my waning free time before I have to remember how to say multi-syllabic words in Spanish.

If you find yourself in Spain and like the above mentioned activities (and laziness) I've described, let me know and I'll give you the hookup.

Until the next adventure..

Abrazos!

  1. Have I ever told you that you have a way with words? Because it's increasingly apparent that you have quite the way with words, Genna.
